This is a sermon I shared in June 2016 called "What they Saw." The theme is how many of us miss opportunities to lead when we ignore the needs of people all around us. Here is a little of what you will hear on this show:
There is a consistent pattern between Leaders and Followers. This is the theme of today.
I Believe Leaders see what followers don’t see…yet!
Leaders see what’s ahead and makes ethical decisions accordingly.
New Living Translation
But Samuel replied, "What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
In other words, doing the right thing is better than trying to repair a mess up.
During the Nazi occupation of his country in WWII, King Christian X of Denmark noticed a Nazi flag flying over a Danish public building. He immediately called the German commandant, demanding that the flag be taken down at once. The commandant refused. "Then a soldier will go and take it down." said the king. "He will be shot," threatened the commandant. "I think not," replied the king, "for I shall be the soldier." Within minutes the flag was taken down. Today in the Word, August, 1991, p. 13.
Leaders see what most of us cannot imagine.
"The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality." Leaders need to have a good picture of what is really going on around them. And they need to help others take an honest look at this reality." Richard J. Mouw, Uncommon Decency, p. 117.
I have been Pastor of Faith Outreach Chapel, in Baltimore Maryland, since 1994.
