Overspending at the City of Modesto: the Scapegoat excuse

The last two Republican Mayors of Modesto, were appointed by the Republican Central committee, the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, Mike Zagaris, and in particular developer lawyer George Petrulakis.

During the 2016 campaign for mayor Ted Brandvold said that Petrulakis “recruited” him but he was not taking his help. Brandvold filed his papers on the last day possible and thanks to Petrulakis made the runoff to oppose Mayor Marsh.

Brandvold visited former Mayor Sabatino at the restaurant to seek an endorsement he did not need. He told the mayor that Petrulakis “persuaded him” to run and Mayor Sabatino said, “So, Petrulakis is helping you, he had you change the word “recruited” to “persuade”.
