Older adults often point to the "good old days" when as a child, if they misbehaved out in public, a neighbor could "whoop"  them, then would call their parents who would "whoop" them again. This is the closest understanding to "community child rearing" that most elders have. But what if we truly, as a community, raised our children, and all adults participated in their guidance? What would it look like if all adults in the community were coaches, teachers, scout leaders,  moms, dads, guardians and healthy influencers in children's lives? Can we extend the role of community parenting behind the idea of other adults having the authority to "whoop" our children and actually visualize the healthy interaction and guidance by other adults as a way of life? What would that look like? How would that relieve struggling single mothers of the burden of raising children alone and the stigma of having no husband? How would it support single fathers who are raising children without a wife? How would it help grandparents raising children? Can the community become an extended family for the children?
