Many high profile celebrity marriages are on the rocks because of alleged infidelity. Some couples that choose to "forgive and forget" are criticized, as if they aren't taking the institution of marriage seriously. But isn't it time to redefine the purpose for marriage? Is it really only about having an exclusive sex partner and official ownerdip of another's body, granted to us by the State? Or are there greater goals of partnership and mutual interests to be considered? Do we really "own" the rights to another's body or emotions? Why should the State or any religious institution have the right to legitimize what is actually a personal family decision? Is there a more fair and just way to create a union between two people?
