Children in America need an experience outside of this country to help them understand why they are in school. They are in school to prepare themselves to run the world. It's difficult to get that message across when they live in cities that close their schools, fire their teachers and ignore their needs for knowlege and skills. But this is truly why they are in school. And if they knew this, they would be as excited about learning as are the children in Africa, who know without a doubt that when they become adults, they will be running the world they live in. Jeanette Taylor of the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization (KOCO), has traveled to Africa and worked with elementary schools in Ghana. She was so impressed with the drive and motivation to learn, that she has launched a program to link American children with African children to share knowlege, culture, and visions for the future.
