The movie "12 Years A Slave" awakens the deeply rooted pain in African American men and women, reminding us that the cruelty of beatings, rape and murder was too long an accepted part of American culture. There is a genetic memory in every human being, in which the very cells in your body carry the records of your ancestors' experiences. Fear, hurt, anger, rage, dispair and distrust are the modern day barriers to healthy male/female relationships, because in our genes are the memories of betrayal and degradation.
