Alcohol and drugs, these are common addictions that we know can cause hurt and suffering to loved ones. All addictions develop as a result of a lack of love, and a seeking to fill the void, created by lack of love from ones mother, father, or both, and a lack of love for oneself. But some behaviors are also addictions, obsessive compulsive things we do to fill that emptiness, and we don't even know we're hurting those we love by our behavior. When you feel bad do you obsessively do any of these things to make you feel better?

Eat a lot of snacks or even a big meal even if you're not hungry; Shop and spend a lot of money on things you don't need; Pour yourself into your work for days and days, not coming home to family members untill late hours; Meet strangers and have sex with people you barely know; Go to the gambling boats and bet a lot of money (you may win, but you keep betting until you lose and then keep betting trying to win it back).

Food, sex, work, shopping, gambling, any obsessive behavior can become the addiction we use to fill the absence of feeling loved. If you recognize this in yourself it's time to search within and discover the true source of your pain in order to heal and stop you from unknowingly hurting yourself and others.
