If you think of a Swami as a monastic figure, sitting quietly in his ashram, then I have a surprise for you! One of the world’s most revered spiritual teachers, Swami Kriyananda–the last still-teaching disciple of Parahansa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi)–is, at 84, a man of perpetual action and engagement with society. In Southern Calfiornia for a rare sixth-month extended visit, he is conducting Sunday public addresses now through Dec. 5 and then again in late January, at which people may ask questions of him. Also in January he will be offering a class called “Six Weeks to Lasting Success and Happiness,”—the first series of classes that he has personally taught in 40 years, which will be available digitally. These represent unprecedented direct access to him for the public. Swami’s latest book, The New Path: My Life with Paramhansa Yogananda , has just won two prestigious book awards, and he is introducing to Californians to Ananda, his international organization committed to helping people infuse spirituality into their everyday lives through yoga, meditation, classes, fellowship and more. In December, his “Christ Lives: An Oratorio” will also be performed. And he will be the keynote speaker at the Conscious Life Expo. That’s a lot of local activity for an 84-year-old global spiritual leader. We will be asking the Swami about his newest class Six Weeks to Lasting Success and Happiness and The FEATURE FILM ON PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA, THE SPIRIUTAL LEADER WHO BROUGHT YOGA AND EASTERN THOUGHT TO THE WEST which is based on the screenplay written by the Swami.
