In my work as a psychotherapist and in my private life I have encountered an issue which generally causes a great deal of anguish and uncertainty. It’s the process of an adult child who has married, often now has a child of his or her own, and is attempting to form a new family separate from the family of origin. This is a normal developmental stage of growth and maturity all around, but often comes with a lot of pain, conflict and confusion for not only the adult child, but also his or her parents.
