Joshua Ruiz was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and moved to Georgia with his family in 1989.  As a lover of martial arts, Joshua admired that martial arts involved the mind and the body.  He took American Karate when he was young but had to stop.  Years later, he found Judo under the guidance of Bob Byrd and Bruce Toups, from whom he received his black belt. He fell in love with Judo and its beliefs of "Maximum Efficiency, Minimum Effort" and "Mutual Welfare and Benefit."  For Joshua, Judo is more than a martial art, it is a way of life.
