We are bombarded with books and movies about zombies, vampires, werewolves and other undead creatures that mindlessly seek human flesh and blood but can never be filled and satisfied. These creatures seem to be in some terrible pain but are unable to understand, master or reduce thair agony as they go about destroying everything about them and ultimately themselves as well. Why is the popular media so consumed with horror stories? Are we turning into hungry ghosts and are these stories a metaphor for what we are becoming as individuals and as a society as well.  Todays story will suggest that many of us have become terrified in the face of so much mindless politics, consumerism, materialism and try and provide some insight into our possible transformation into a society of zombies. We will discuss contributions from Freud, Evolutionary Theory, Social Theory and other relelvant sources. I will especially discuss the Freudian and later Psychoanalytic concepts of early childhood trauma and the resulting emotions of fear, shame and guilt that can color an individual's whole life story.
