Over 1800 State legislators belong to ALEC.  ALEC is said to be a "dating service" for corporate execs and State Legislators.  "Together they develop model bills that lawmakers introduce and try to pass in State legislatures," according to Ed Pilkington with host Terry Gross on NPR's Fresh Air broadcast... from attempts to keep back medicaid, reduce pension entitlements of public employees and to keep low the minimum wage.  When Congress follows despite opposition from constituents, so goes the approval rating.
