Quick Take Ohio: A Toolkit for Correctional Facilities to Help Reduce the Use of Solitary Confinement

In March 2015, the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators (CJCA) published a Toolkit to Reduce the Use of Isolation. This Toolkit is intended to guide leadership of youth correctional facilities in changing cultures that rely on solitary confinement as a behavior management tool. The Toolkit is another recent acknowledgment that the regular use of seclusion is not good for youth and must end. Ned Loughran, CJCA's Executive Director, joins this Quick Take Ohio to discuss the Toolkit, its components, and some promising practices.
