Home group: Primary Purpose Group of Houston

Drank for effect for 22 years. Daily drinker for last 18 years (adulthood) in bars, with friends’ and at home. Most of my money was spent on drinking and getting out of drinking problems.

Bartender for 12 years.

Arrested for DWI twice in Houston, Texas and once in Longmont, Colorado. Refused breathalyzers and beat court cases. Refusing breathalyzers cost me suspended licenses in Texas.

The price you pay for drinking. Drinking is fun.

Injured myself at work, rehabilitation took two or three months. When I went back to work, sleeping in had become a slippage point. Woke up late again and missed work again. Drinking until two in the morning and getting up in time for work was slipping away.

Boss noticed I was late again. Boss also thought I had a drinking problem. Boss called back after noon meeting and inquired if I had actually gotten desire chip. Daily AA from there, EAP program appointment 24 days later determined 24 days sobriety required out-patient treatment. Stayed with out-patient to learn and to document recovery for Boss (and my file.) 

3rd Generation AA.

Within 70 days had sponsor and was working the steps. Entered weekly Step Study for Men via sponsor. Finished step work in less than 12 weeks from getting sponsor.

Made rounds of meetings via Key Map and Meetings Guide published by local Intergroup. Lots of road work. Began leading meetings at favorites. Rearranged life around not drinking.

Co-founded inner city club for simplicity of finding meetings for new guys.

12th Step work mostly in facilitating meetings and participating in Step Studies and Beginner’s Meetings.
