Mary Halsted holds degrees in Medieval Studies from the University of Notre Dame and University College Dublin. She is a certified clinical herbalist working in the Unani Tibb, or Greek, energetic tradition, and owner of the practice, Raven & the Hawthorn Tree Herbalism, LLC. She is at present at work on a book which aims to present a true vision of herbalism in the classical and medieval ages of the world.
Mary will share her wisdom on the deeper meaning of “energetics” relateing to herbs, people, and disease conditions. She says you need to understand all three in order to understand how herbalism works to heal the body.
The language of energetics is often described as four qualities: cooling vs. warming, and drying vs. moistening. Other herbalists add two more; those being relaxing and constricting.
Do you know your own energetics? Do plants swing both ways? Yes, Mary calls those plants, such as Elder and yarrow, magical, and they deserve extra respect.
We’ll discuss the best warming herbs going into the winter season, as well as what the individual significance of these herbs throughout history has been. Stay tuned!
