Elaine Blanchard is a storyteller, writer, actor and teacher. She tells stories and engages listening audiences in sharing their own stories. “Stories build bridges,” Elaine says. “When the story ends and the teller’s voice is silenced, the connection made between the listener and the story lives on.” Elaine gathers people in  homeless shelters, prisons, re-entry programs, service centers for people living with HIV and AIDS, adults living with disabilities, senior centers, retreat centers, civic organizations, schools and churches. “Everyone has a story to tell. When we lift up and value every voice in our community, we increase healing and hope for everyone. By listening to the stories of our neighbors’ lives we break down stereotypes and increase mutual understanding and respect.” A registered nurse, Elaine listened  for twenty-five years to the stories that patients told. A writer, Elaine’s collection of Bible stories, Help Me Remember, was published and recorded by Pilgrim Press in 2005. She has written and performed two one-woman shows, “For Goodness Sake,” a story about her experiences with racism in a southern religious home and “Skin and Bones,” a story about her struggle to live well in the body she has been given. Elaine teaches “The Art of Storytelling” at Memphis College of Art and she teaches “The Preacher as Storyteller” at Memphis Theological Seminary.
