Steve Brumme is a polio survivor and a champion athlete.  On June 2 through July 12, 2013, he will hand cycle 750 miles down the Pacific Coast from his home in Sonoma County to Santa Barbara, and back, stopping along the way to give scheduled speeches in 10 Rotary Clubs about living an inspiring life and helping the Rotary Clubs fulfill on their pledges to contribute to End Polio Now.  Through this End Polio Now Bike Tour pledge drive, he will help raise public awareness and $50,000 for the Rotary International End Polio Now campaign.   Because he walks on leg braces and crutches he has a deep personal commitment to see polio end.  He has a long track record of being an outstanding athlete.  He is a champion martial artist, a rock climber, a horse back rider, a long distance walker, and a long-term hand cyclist.  He has been in training for long distance hand cycling since 2009.  His friends describe him as a “renaissance man.” He is a master painter, a musician, a published writer, a life coach, a teacher, and a master story teller/motivational speaker. All these skills have prepared him for this 750 miles End Polio Now Bike Tour.  It is his turn to give back to the world.He is active in the community working with children and youth. Steve was the founding director of the Courage of Love, a series of art exhibits featuring the art of 86 children, which raised funds for the VNA and Hospice Children's Bereavement Program. He also founded the Love is Circle of Strength project to help struggling single parents to get back on their feet. He is a mentor to many children offering them free art lessons.Even though Steve's legs have been paralyzed since age 1 because of polio, he has an athletic appetite for adventure.
