Lupe” is a new drama that explores the topics of family, immigration and embracing one’s true identity. It is directed by the team of  André Phillips & Charles Vuolo.  It depicts the complex world of Rafael (Rafael Albarrán), a Cuban immigrant and boxer, struggling with their transgender identity while searching for their missing sister, Isabel (Lucerys Medina) in New York City’s underground sex industry.

Today we have star Rafael Albarran and executive producer Kerry Michelle O'Brien to discuss the beauty and impact of this deeply moving film. The directors released this statement about the film: "In Lupe, our protagonist Rafael appears to have one primary goal: to find their sister Isabel and free her from a painful life. Rafael’s second and less stated goal is to find peace with their own gender identity and reconcile this with preconceived notions about femininity and masculinity. Lupe is a film about the unseen struggles of those who don’t conform with
societies oldest and most rigid categories and the subtle but powerful moments that encompass their journey."

Lupe premieres on Friday, February 26 (8:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO Latino and available to stream on HBO Max.
