Elizabeth Russell holds an M.A. in Women's Spirituality from Sofia University in Palo Alto, CA. She is most recently a Ph.D. student at the California Institute of Integral Studies. She has also studied at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.

Some of her professors were protoges of the late archaeologist, Marija Gimbutas. Other teachers have been famous historical figures and foremothers of feminist spirituality such as Carol Christ, China Galland, Vicki Noble, Judy Grahn, and Barbara Tedlock..

Anthropology/comparitive religion her forte, women's studies, her areas of specialization are, matriarchal studies, ancient/contemporary female shamanism, American Indian studies, and Mormon studies.

Her article Pomo Baby Rocks will be published in The Journal of Archaeomythology.
