Deborah Kogler knew she wanted to make a difference in the lives of those who were afflicted with vision impairments. Several years ago her grandmother lost her sight due to a retinal detachment and macular degeneration. The devastation and frustration of the disease gave Deborah the desire and inspiration to find out what could be done to help her grandmother and those who also were afflicted with vision impairments. In 2002, Deborah opened her own business to help those with vision impairments. Deborah has spent the last 28 years in the eye care profession. She is a dual licensed optician in Ohio, licensed by the American Board Board of Optician (ABO) and the National contact Lens Examiners (NCLE), and specializes in low vision. She is also a member of the National Academy of Optician, Ohio Opticians Association and the Optician Association of America. Deborah also does lecturing, writing and consultations on low vision. Deborah is the President of Magnifiers & More. Her partner, Murphy Kogler, is the CEO (canine executive officer) of the business. Murphy is a golden retriever who holds a license as a therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International (TDI ) and service assistance dog with the Delta Society. Deborah and Murphy are involved with Partners with Paws Ohio; a therapy dog program that offers animal assisted therapy to children with special needs. Deborah is the Past President of Partners with Paws Ohio. Deborah and Murphy are involved with many organizations that speicalize with the aging population, visually impaired and community volunteering. In their free time, Murphy and Debbie visit area hospital, nursing homes and assisted living homes to do their therapy work. They also love to spend time outdoors taking long walks, playing fetch and enjoying the beauty our good Lord has blessed us with.
