Is It To A Man's/Woman's Benefit To Live Up To Their Partner's Expectations?

In our society, there seems to be an unwritten law which claims that  it is a man's duty to live up to his woman's or wife's expectations, but the opposite is not and NEVER true according to popular belief! In other words,  an on-going double standard exists, ranging from the smallest to the largest of interactions between males and females on the grounds of relationships, which says that the woman is whole, whereas the man is broken or at fault.....and was born that way. The real question is, though, is there any true benefit, whether being male or female, to living up to anyone's expectations without losing one's  true self-value in the process?
