As a second year at The Ohio State University, it has been a learning experience for Selena Wilson. She came into OSU having a specific plan on what she wanted to do: Nursing. During her freshman year, she ran into a couple of obstacles in which lead her to change my major from a Bachelor’s of  Science in Nursing (BSN) to a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Sciences with a minor in Clinical Psychology. This was a drastic transition for Selena because she had always planned to get her BSN and go to graduate school to become a nurse practitioner. Prior to her switching majors, she decided to take the initiative to take advantage of the opportunities given on campus. Selena came across many research positions she could apply for as a freshman in college. While researching what type of research position she wanted to apply for, she came across a study on pregnant women. Once Selena applied, she was given an interview that following week and got accepted for the position with no problems. She was quite excited to be going into research. This was something she had always been taught or heard of people doing it, so to actually be a part of the research team is something she was glad to officially be a part of. When she first started working in the lab, they were doing research on pregnant women, looking at the links between the psychological (life stressors, mood, social support, etc.) and physical affects the influenza vaccine (flu shot) has on both the mother and the newborn.
