Better Understanding Disabilities  is a nonprofit organization of compassionate, comprehensive, qualified professionals who work to educate parents to improve the lives of children with learning disabilities. When a child is first identified as a student in need of services, many parents have no knowledge of the process until they receive a parent handbook during an individualize education plan (IEP) meeting. The parent handbook is often written in a language unfamiliar to most parents. Parents are often overwhelmed by this meeting because it is not like a familiar parent-teacher conference. The meeting includes many educational professionals (administrator, teacher, therapists, counselor, psychologist, etc.

BUD was established in 2012 to advocate for and empower parents to seek the necessary services for their children upon initial identification of a learning disability. Annette Says BUD is uniquely qualified to assist and inform parents because for over 20 years I have been involved with the special education maze both as a parent and a teacher.
