I will talk with Miakoda (jyll taylor) about her spiritual path and professional work.
The intertwining of rape and race has been informing Miakoda’s life, long before she was born. Inheriting the traumas of slave rape that her paternal ancestors endured, being born into an interracial family, and being raped multiple times as a young adult, Miakoda has spent the better part of her life integrating and healing the traumas of rape and race.
The culmination of this lifelong healing journey has emerged as a body of work Miakoda refers to as Fierce Allies (www.fierceallies.com). Through this work, Miakoda offers intensive training in Emotional Warriorship™ and facilitates conflict transformation processes that result in resilient multicultural partnerships across historic divides. She works with diverse communities including victims and offenders of violent crime, as well as environmental and social justice organizations. This work embodies the complexity of her life experiences, interweaving indigenous values, wisdom cultures and community building practices from across the globe, emotional and social intelligence, somatic healing, Restorative Justice, experiential learning, and popular education.
