Patient advocacy has gone from being the frosting on the medical-care cake to being a necessary ingredient in any recipe for medical care that does more harm than good. Patients have to be informed, but all the information in the world still doesn’t help if you (or your advocate) doesn’t have the tenacity to insist that your views, concerns, and wishes be acknowledged, with or without the MD behind your name. This is especially critical for the elderly, who often do not have the resilience to recover from medical mistakes or sloppy drug-pushing.

So what do we do when we get ill? Do you know there is a patient advocate that can help you to navigate the maze of the healthcare system?  Did you also know that there is a book of patient rights that you should get everytime you go to the emergency room? Did you also know , you have the right to ask for and recieve any information on the type of treatment the doctor is going to give you?  And also, to ask for the type of spritual counsseling that reflects your on belief system. This is the first in a series of shows, that will help you with dealing with the standard medical system and hospital care.
