Many people in the recovery community confuse empathy and codependency.  The empathetic person attempts to help another with no ulterior motive.  Their empathy is unconditional.  The codependent attempts to help with the ulterior motive of thinking that he/she knows what is best for another.  We will be exploring and clarifying the differences between the two.
