Ralph Waldo Emerson, famed American poet and essayist, stated, "A friend may well be called a masterpiece of nature." The Greek play-wright Euripides said, "One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives." American poet Emily Dickinson said, "My friends are my estate."

Like most of us, these famous people treasured friendships. Faith in Christ affords us the greatest of all friendships - an intimate, close companionship with Jesus himself. Jesus' friendship with John gives us an opportunity to consider how to have friendships with Jesus and with others.
