A Receptive Heart

It seems to be a natural impulse for people to think they can get to God by their own goodness. They look for a system of good works, of prayers and rituals, or something else they can control. This is an "adult" way of thinking. It is the way we get and keep the job we want. It's how we keep up our responsibilities. But God wants from us the receptive, dependent heart of a child.
