Succession Politics ! Is Kenya a Dynasty ? From the looks of it, Kenyan politicians groom their sons and daughters to take over after them. From the Kenyattas to the Mois, from the Wamalwas to the Odingas; Kenyan politicians act as though Kenya has a Consitutional Monarchy. . Hence, just because your father was president, MP or government official, etc. does not mean you automatically become the next president, MP or judge. . Notice that current leaders are getting agigated by the fact that they can see their chances of getting the “promised land” slowly slipping. They seem desperate. . CORRUPTION Isn’t that what has perptuated corruption, impunity and lack of respect for the rule of law. They even speak in ethnic languages in public rallies, like we are all one ethnic group. . Maybe they just want to protect their future after they retire. . NEW LEADERS Are there there other Kenyans with a clear vision for Kenya and with new and better ideas for Kenya. In addition, does Kenyan have individuals who are accountable and transparent and willing to use Kenya’s resources for the benefit of the people, not to enrich themselves ? . REMEMBER Remember When Moi’s proclamed that Uhuru is his prefered successor, it begged the question “Isn’t Kenya not capable of producing competent sons/daughters from different ethnic groups apart from Kikuyu and the Kalenjins? Moi’s reasoning or rather imagination is based on the premise that Kenya need a unifying figure and according to him who is best suited than Kenyatta ? . ACTION Are Kenyans tired of this colonial-style manipulation and demand a change in the status quo. ”Just because my family does not own 1/3 of Kenya, just because I don’t have Shs. 20 Billion stashed away in France; just because I don’t kill any perceived politcal enemies, etc. does not mean I cannot be a leader” – a Kenyan said recently. .
