THE REVELATIONS OF JESUS CHRIST
Revelation Received August8,1989,Provo, Utah on the Reason of the Separation, that the Seventy are Not to Be High Priests.
The reason, saith the Lord, that the Seventy are to be totally segregated from High Priests is to maintain the system of checks and balances in the Kingdom of God, that the keys belong to the Seventies. 2 And though the High Priests may mourn over it, it is just so, and any man, chosen by the Lord, (not just a select corporate clique of businessmen and high priests, such as those who govern the Mormon Church today) may attain to the Apostleship with all the keys of the Kingdom of God encompassed within this ordination, and thus provide a check and a safeguard against this elitism, and the rich and powerful politically taking over the Church as the High Priests think they have done today.
‘‘There is authority and there are degrees of authority, and there is a difference in degrees, callings and authority of the Priesthood. If there should be one apostle left on the earth, he can regulate and set in order the whole of the church and kingdom of God. If there is one seventy left he could do so. This order is not my getting up, it is the Lord’s doings; high priests my mourn over it, the Lord has said it, and I have no right to say it is not so." Brigham Young

Sometimes you just have to change horses in midstream. Succession, like death, comes knocking at the most inconvenient times. Host Bart Jackson brings on as featured guest Pastor Dave Davis, Chair of the Trustees of the Presbyterian Foundation. This fiscal arm for all the Presbyterian churches in the US raises, cajoles, invests, sets mission strategies for, and distributes its $60 million dollars annually to broadly enhance the faith and better the lives of folks worldwide. From aiding a new Palestinian business in the ancient city of Jericho to refurbishing a clergy retirement home in Pennsylvania, this group makes the decisions and makes sure it happens effectively. Recently, after eight years on the board, Pastor Davis is stepping down and passing the torch to another chairperson. Despite some unsettling times in the church and contended decisions, Foundation CEO Tom Taylor is taking this change with the calm confidence of a Christian with four aces. Dave explains why, and provides tips for a smooth changing of the management.
The birthright is emphasized in the Bible because it honored the rights or privileges of the family’s firstborn son. After the father died, or in the father’s absence, the firstborn son assumed the father’s authority and responsibilities. In addition to assuming the leadership role in the family, the recipient of the birthright inherited twice that received by the other sons. The birthright of a king’s firstborn son included his succession to the throne. As New Testament Christians, we have an inherited “birthright” status through Jesus Christ as the firstborn Son of God. As God’s only begotten Son, Jesus received the kingdom from His Father and is Lord of all. Christ promises to share with us His kingdom and inheritance but, we are warned not to imitate Esau who, on impulse, gave away his birthright for a bowl of stew. Because of his foolishness, Esau lost his birthright and the blessings of his father.
