After the Kenyan parliament failed last year to form a special tribunal to try those suspected of bearing the greatest responsibility for post-election violence in 2007-2008, the International Criminal Court (ICC) was called in by the government. Months later, the decision to active the Rome Statute that Kenya signed, has given birth to debate about the whole saga. . .An estimated 700,000+ people fled their homes during the weeks of violence that followed the announcement of election results and more than 2,000 died. Many are yet to be resettled. "And so....let us get to the bottom of this and avoid more serious clashes in the future" The International Criminal Court has since named six prominent Kenyans and is evaluating the prosecutor's request to charge them. Established by the Rome Statute on 1 July 2002, the ICC has also conducted investigations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Central African Republic, Kenya and Sudan, and issued 13 arrest warrants in eight cases. . Today, aside from the pros and cons of ICC involvement in Kenya, we want to see whether the selection of the 6 has any relationship to the ethnic divide in Kenya. All for and against, must give irrefutable evidence and argue their points well, or, possibly, face the Hague themselves !!! or should we set up a local tribunal ???? . To join the debate, please call 1.712-432.0900 code 643831 at 10:00 pm EST USA/ 9:00 pm CST / 6:00 am Kenya time. International callers can use Skype [kenyadiasporaradio]
