The procession that took Officer Chavez from hatch to Las Cruces stretched over 11 miles, and arrived at the Pan Am Center just before 3 p.m.

Officers traveled from across the country to be a part of the procession and funeral. Officers came in from Texas, Colorado, Arizona and New York. They all traveled to New Mexico to join officers from across the state and Albuquerque to pay tribute to Officer Chavez and his family.

The day was emotional and the speakers came heart felt and spoke about things that many in the community were likely thinking… “how can this happen here?”
