Welcome to the podcast for Sustainable Facilities Management 2010. Featuring George Earl, Head of School of Sustainable Development - Bond University. Bond University’s Mirvac School of Sustainable Development won the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors global Award for Sustainability on the 16th October 2009 in London. There were 372 nominations across 4 categories with 14 finalists in the Sustainability category including finalists from Spain, France, Germany and United Kingdom. The building is carbon neutral, water efficient, healthy, financially viable and smart. A key to the award is the project’s ability to be replicated. The judges were looking for a scheme that is sustainable in its design and operation, balancing the economic, environmental and social criteria of the project. More specifically, in one of the most challenging of categories, the judges were looking for evidence of forward planning and site monitoring, whether recycled construction materials were used, energy efficient construction and operation proceduresand ‘green’ measures to solve waste and transport needs. This interview will explore the award, the facility, and George's advice on how to build a business case for sustainability, and increasing energy efficiency.
