The Christian Struggle and The Warning Passages
The dominant view in evangelicalism is the "eternal security" doctrine, which states that if one is genuinely saved, he or she will never fall from salvation. The opposing 'Arminian' view is that a true believer may indeed renounce his or her salvation and return to an unsaved state.
While there are misunderstandings on both sides of the argument, and each side can learn from the other, the eternal security view depends on three assumptions that are not found in Scripture. In part 2, we'll look at the second assumption, the Christian's struggle against sin, as well as the third, the warning passages in Scripture.
