Hillsdale College Visiting Research Scholar Glenn Ellmers has written a new bookThe Soul of Politics: Harry V. Jaffa and the Fight for America. In it he explores the life and legacy of Harry V. Jaffa, a professor at Claremont McKenna College and distinguished fellow of the Claremont Institute, who influenced numerous academics, judges, and politicians, including his student Ellmers. A leading scholar of America's founding, natural law, and its decisive influence upon Abraham Lincoln in the struggles over slavery, Jaffa authored Senator Barry Goldwater's 1964 Republican Convention speech, in which the presidential candidate declared that "extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice." Ellmers will join show host Andrew E. Harrod to examine Jaffa's thought and what it means for a conflicted America today.
