 About the author:

John Collins is an army brat originally from Detroit, MI. He is the older of two children. He joined the Navy right after high school and served 14 years in the military before accepting an honorable discharge in Sept 2012. He has been writing since the age of 16, by keeping a journal. The idea of writing a book came about after he sat down to write a three page short story depicting the experience he had after his parents discovered he was same gender loving. He began the manuscript to ‘Virgin to the Life’ in early 2007 and self published his work in 2013. He is working on the sequel to his debut novel, works full time for the Veteran’s Affairs clinic in Atlanta Georgia, and is actively pursuing a degree in health care management and volunteers in the community when time and opportunities present themselves.

About the book:

It is the depiction of a young man named Jason Williams, coming into his own in terms of his sexuality. His parents have discovered the secret he has been trying to keep under wraps for so long. He decides that he must fend for himself after his parents confront him about his sexuality and show a side of them unfamiliar to him. Jason retreats inside of himself and, upon high school graduation, joins the military. He begins to seek like-minded individuals to befriend. Jason is thrown into a world wind of gay life. He experiences his first gay night club, first gay pride, first love, deals with spirituality and religion on his own terms, and has to deal with the consequences that come with living in his own truth.
