In the 102nd Psalm, a proof text of the end of the world is often cited by futurists, especially when quoting the text in Heb. 1:10-12. However, an examination of the Psalm will clearly reveal that the time and manner of the event is the fall of national Israel and the coming of the Lord in 70AD.

The chapter verses mentioned above are easily broken down into several eschatological themes. They are the:

  • Age to come
  • Mercy upon Zion
  • Lord as the New Covenant World
  • Coming of the Lord in Glory
  • The New Creation
  • 2nd Exodus and Redemption of the Remnant
  • Resurrection of the Dead
  • Gathering of the Remnant in Zion
  • Crowning of the King of Kings and Completion of the Mystery of God
  • End of the Jewish Heaven and Earth
  • Everlasting Seed of the New Israel

Our goal will be to discuss each of these as we study the 102nd Psalm and its eschatological emphasis, striving to give each element sufficient time in the space allotted so the audience can see the connections and correlations fulfilled in the New Testament.
