Home Schooling - Public Schools

How to choose?

Does it matter?

Who needs to make the decision?

Advantages and disadvantages of either or:

Public Schools: everything a child needs for education is included, just go to class, follow instructions, get good grades, don't miss school. Fixed routine.

Home Schooling: more flexibility in combining subjects to create more fun while learning. Almost everything done at home can fit into a category from school. Needs extra curricular activities for social development, PE, mental wellbeing

Some examples that can count towards schooling, yet have other benefits also are:

1. Baking bread: measure ingredients (reading, math), mix them (motor skills) follow recipe carefully (reading, understanding), why does it take yeast (science), making bread (home economics, saves money, house smells good, healthy food, no preservatives, tastes delicious....

2. Going grocery shopping: choosing and finding the ingredients, maybe even reading the labels, teaches patience when store is crowded, teaches respect for other shoppers, counting out the money to pay for groceries (math, communication, behavior, reading, comprehension...)

3. Going for a walk or hike: observing surroundings, breathing fresh air, deep breathing for cleansing the thoughts, drawing pictures or when older taking photographs, writing a story or an essay about the walk, what was seen, experienced, felt...(movement, mind, sight, smell, writing, art..)
