1. The deployment of the highly advanced Russian S-400 anti-air missiles at Russia's military enclave in Syria, combined with Russian electronic jamming and other electronic warfare equipment, has effectively transformed most of Syria into a no-fly zone under Russian control.

2. A Nigerian government spokesman said last week that the military cannot meet the president’s December deadline to crush Boko Haram’s Islamist uprising, and Nigerians must expect suicide bombings to continue.

5. U.S. President Barack Obama urged Turkey on Tuesday to reduce tensions with Russia that are hampering efforts to fight Islamic State militants in Syria and stressed that U.S. support for its NATO ally’s security remained steadfast.
