Continuing violence, killing of Palestinians puts Israel on edge

1. Israeli soldiers killed six young Palestinians on Friday in the Gaza Strip as they opened fire to quell crowds that hurled rocks and rolled burning tires close to the fence separating Gaza from Israel. 

2. Islamic State fighters have seized villages close to the northern Syrian city of Aleppo from rival insurgents, despite a Russian air-and-sea campaign that Moscow says has targeted the militant group. 

3. A month after the leader of al-Qaida said that the Islamic State and its leader are illegitimate, a recording of Ayman Zawihri was released on Monday, documenting an even harsher tirade against ISIS and the man who refers to himself as the Caliph of Islam, ISIS chief Abu Bakr alBaghdadi.

4. The US State Department denied reports that it issued Israel an ultimatum this week threatening not to veto a UN Security Council resolution declaring West Bank settlements illegal if Israel announced new settlement construction. 

5. North Korea's supreme leader, Kim Jong-un, has said his country could defend itself in any war started by the US.
