Israeli officials try to play down report of U.S. deal with Iran. According to Reuters, Israeli officials played down a report in an Israeli newspaper that accused Washington of secretly negotiating with Tehran to keep the United States out of a future Israel-Iran war. An Israeli official, who asked not to be identified, described the report as illogical. He said, "There would be no need to make such a promise to the Iranians because they realize the last thing they need is to attack U.S. targets and draw massive U.S. bombing raids."

North Korea says typhoon killed 48 people and left 21,000 homeless. According to The Associated Press, Typhoon Bo-la-ven also left more than 50 people injured or missing, damaged over 120,000 acres of farmland and destroyed or flooded 6,700 houses. The typhoon also killed 15 people in South Korea.

Chishti denied the charges while being led to court in shackles.
