Charlotte View welcomes, writer and philosopher, Ian James Fitzpatrick. He will talk about what is search engine optimization (SEO) and why it matters when marketing your business?

Ian is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Literature and Philosophy. He is an independent writer currently working on his first book, a polemic, in which he attempts to connect what he believes are the driving forces in today's world: money, and energy. Before moving to Hilton Head Island, he worked as a freelance writer in Tucson as well as a content writer at a Search Engine Optimization firm.

As a student of critical analysis and as a creative writer, Fitzpatrick describes himself as "constantly distracted by the possibility of dishonesty." In the piece he's researching currently, his goal is to clarify, for both himself and the audience, how the monetary system, and energy resources -- most notably petroleum -- are linked, and shaping the world we live in today. "I hope to offer some transparency, but, if nothing else, I know I can offer perspective," He says of his writing, "If I raise a reasonable doubt in the readers' minds that perhaps they aren't seeing the whole picture and need to reexamine the evidence, then I've done my job as a writer." '

SEO is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's "natural" or un-paid ("organic") search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users. SEO target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.
