Press [1] for Democracy (P1FD) is a Coffee Party Radio show that discusses the political issues of the day in a civil, fact-based, and transpartisan manner.  Transpartisan is quite different from bi- or non-partisan in the we encourage callers to be passionate about their positions, but also that they listen and respond to those with differing points of view repsectfully and with a true desire to find common ground on which solutions can be built.

Is it time for a third choice?

Most people agree that the polarization of American politics is driven by the harsh divisive rhetoric of opposing parties.  Those that believe that the divide has become unbridgeable have reacted in one of two ways.  According to a January 2014 Gallop poll, a record 45% of likely voters now self-identify as independents.  Add to that the number of Americans that have become so sick and tired of the “noise” that they have simply quit voting, and what you have is a VAST majority.  As such, logic dictates that -- or at least the mathematical possibility exists for a third party to sweep into power in any given election cycle.  The only remaining question is:  What would the platform and policies of such a party look like?
