Today I decided to title the show “Obamacare Not A Website”. I wrote a fairly lengthy piece for the DailyKOS that will drop at 3:30 CST on Sunday. The piece concerns the coverage of the buggy release of healthcare.gov. My listeners get a sneak preview.
I was especially upset at the coverage by journalists I really respect and have learned a lot from like Ezra Klein, Ryan Lizza, and a few others. They were hyperventilating on little information. They acted like the website was the definition of Obamacare. Joan Walsh caused an uproar when she had the same concerns and called them out. She was unfairly excoriated and received some misogynistic tweets.
Krystal Ball had a virtual meltdown on MSNBC. Hers however seemed to come from unrealistic expectations for a site this complex. Other ‘Liberal attacks’ came from a Liberal Ivory Tower purity brigade. I want to explore this among other related topics. Ultimately I will tell you how you can get coverage today.
The President was absolutely correct. Obamacare is not a website. Obamacare is much more. The website is buggy but getting better every day. I check it every day. What is interesting is that the website affects potentially 15 percent of Americans while all the other merits of the law affect 100% of Americans. The 15% are those that have been yearning for coverage. Poor reporting puts unnecessary stress on these folks when we know ultimately things will be made fine. It is the law.
