In this program, guest Jaydee Sperry (associated with The Matrona certified mid-wifery program) and I take a deeper look at the rising instances of opiate and heroin related deaths, including suicides, among young Americans. We will explore a possible relationship to birth trauma and suicide risk. We are both curious about the type of birth trauma being reflected in the chosen method of suicide, which supports a deeper, unconscious correlation between disruptions in natural, non-medicalized birth.
Women in the United States are increasingly accepting a medicalized version of giving birth, a process that's been natural and completely within the domain of women, and wise women elders for thousands of years. When women accept a medicalized birth process without a life-threatening emergency being the reason, what future harm are we exposing our newborns to in later life?

Birth is a natural, powerful, and blissful process in which a mother's biochemistry of love and wholeness co-creates her infant's biochemistry of vulnerable connection and maternal bonding. What happens when this natural biological resonance is disrupted? Birth trauma for mother, for infant, or both?
