Guests for 11/7/2009: Dr. Hank Dunn and Mr. Nate Van Sell

Dr. Dunn has substantially increased capital and equipment expenditures through annual budget allocations to meet the needs of growing academic programs and student services. He has implemented annual program reviews to ensure that academic programs meet high standards. A case management model has been introduced to help students deemed “at risk” integrate into the college experience.  Dunn is also building bridges to the K-12 education through creation of ARCs – Academic Resource Centers – pre-college academic programs in math, English and reading, with two established thus far at Decatur Township and Arsenal Technical high schools. And, under his leadership, Ivy Tech-Central Indiana has more than doubled the revenue generated through its Workforce and Economic Development division, which this past fiscal year provided training services to more than 200 employers in the region.

Dunn holds a doctoral degree in higher education leadership from the University of Florida - Gainesville and a master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and an associate degree from Indian River Community College.

Mr. Van Sell’s life changed in August of 2009, when his right side went numb at work, and within an hour or two he was diagnosed with a stroke.  Listen to him discuss the warning signs and his recovery.

Mr. Van Sell loves music (80s music being his  favorite), boxing, seeing the seasons change, a good beer, collecting firearms, his hometown of Terre Haute, and the state of Indiana.
