If you can write well and or take decent photos, a good way to supplement your income might be to become a travel journalist on your upcoming vacation. During times of economic uncertainty many vacationers are traveling closer to home and even more are expected to confine their destinations to the lower 48 states. For those with vacation plans this year, Kentucky Travel Administrator, Patrick Stipes, says that Kentucky offers not only great prices but exciting outdoor adventures as well. Scheduled for an upcoming radio interview with Career Coach, Kathi Calahan, the two will be discussing how to find work in the travel industry and which Kentucky destinations offer the best outdoor beauty and athletic thrills. As a former vacationer in the 15th state, Calahan says she enjoys exercising while on vacation and found herself in better condition after her week-long holiday traveling throughout the Bluegrass State. She enjoyed such beginner activities as rock climbing, ATV riding, river canoeing and visits to historical locations surrounding the state's coal mining industry. Growing up in California, Calahan says at first she had no idea what the dark gray layers were that ribboned the mountain sides. When she mentioned to one of her guides that it looked like there had been a big fire, he good-naturedly laughed, walked over and kicked a chunk off the mountain and said in his thick Kentucky accent, "Hon, that thar's coal!" The good news is that if you enjoy traveling and sharing your experiences, you may want to supplement your income by writing about your own town's back yard, or your favorite out of state destinations. Calahan shares these coaching secrets and many more like this on her website, godseer: Take photos and write brief how-to information, then submit them to online travel websites.
