During times of economic uncertainty many employees are considering whether to start a home-based business. The good news is that the best time for worried workers to retrain in a new career field is right now, according to Prescott, Arizona Career Coach, Kathi Calahan. She goes on to say, "This is not the time to panic. This is the time for strategic planning. Our economy has always turned itself around and you want to be ready when it does." According to Career Coach Calahan, those who have a business dream must keep a positive mental attitude and begin making an orderly business plan now. The way to do that, she explains, is simplified and contained in these key steps, which are further magnified in her career coaching boot camp: • Name your three best skills. • Identify your three can't-live-without values. • List your three most passionate interests. • Combine your list, find a career where these steps easily fit and build a business around it. With a steadily rising American unemployment rate, the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows a one-year 7.2% unemployment high during December 2008. "Americans are worried," claims Calahan, but she encourages them to keep in mind that employment will recover. She says that by training now, career adjusters will find themselves available and qualified when the market resets itself. And, by agreeing to become more self aware of transferable skills, job seekers will find successful encounters in fields they might not have otherwise considered.
