You have seen your loved one, or friends, suffer with Alzheimer's as the progress through "the slow goodbye", so why would you want to know if you carry the genetic marker? You can't do anything about it...can you? This attitude, while understandable, is no longer valid. Statistically, yes, if you carry the ApoE4 marker you are at higher risk. But don't give up! Those without the marker still have a 9% risk of contracting the disease. If one parent carries the gene, you have a 30% of being infected and if both carry it, you jump to a 90% chance! While current monotherapies for AD have proven woefully inadequate, new, cutting edge approaches that work WITH your body's ability to heal itself are coming to light.
