Mark Newhouse was born in Germany after losing most of his family in the Nazi Holocaust. His parents survived and immigrated to America without money and without speaking any English. He credits the American public school system for his education and success teaching in Central Islip, Long Island, and as an adjunct instructor at SUNY Old Westbury. In 1989, Mark was named Elementary/Secondary Teacher of the Year by the New York State Reading Association.

He believes that parents, teachers, clergy, government, and most of all children, must work together to stop the violence and hate in our schools and society. In order to promote a love of reading and writing, Mark Newhouse loves visiting children, parents and teachers in schools and libraries. Mr. Newhouse also founded and is 'Top Cat' of the Childrens Authors Team in The Villages, Florida. He has also been named, in 2002, Lake County Florida's Author of the Year.

Author’s Beat, sponsored by The Writers League of the Villages in central Florida, is hosted by award-winning author Mark Newhouse and was created by Don Canaan and Mark Newhouse. Also listen to “The Chosen Radio” every 1st and 3rd Sunday morning of the month at 10:30. Award-winning journalist Don Canaan brings you dramatizations of many of the radio programs that you grew up with.
